REMI UPDATE – Friday, December 30, 2011
Remi the black lab that came to us back in August with the two injured legs is now back home with her original owners. Her real name is Maggie. Everyone that has been involved could not be happier. She has been in the care of Shelter Outreach Services since last September because of the generous support we received from animal lovers from all over the country. After months of treatments it was determined the injuries on her legs were self inflicted due to an anxiety disorder. Since mid December the staff at Shelter Outreach Services have been working on several different methods of dealing with the anxiety so we could get her adopted. But, we had a Christmas Miracle happen!!
On Saturday, December 17th we had a visitor at the shelter that read Remi / Maggie’s story and was sure it was her Aunt and Uncle’s dog they lost in early July. The Bostick family visited our website and saw the video and pictures of Remi/Maggie and knew it was their dog. They contacted the shelter the following Monday and explained they lost their dog in early July. After several months of looking and a death in the family lost hope of finding her and thought the worst. They had been working with Remi/Maggie’s anxiety issues for several years but the injuries got out of control when she was lost and had no one to care for her. I was shocked but knew after my first conversation with the family that Remi/Maggie was their dog. We made arrangements to meet at Shelter Outreach Services the Friday before Christmas. Mr. Bostick made me aware there were two children involved and he did not want to tell them until they knew for sure it was their Maggie. Mr. Bostick told me his 11 year old son never gave up hope and cried every time he saw a black lab hoping it was her.
The family met me on Friday, December 23rd for this incredible reunion. Once Remi/Maggie saw them she went crazy and there was not a dry eye in the room. No words can explain the magical feeling in that room especially when the 11 year old boy Nathan saw her, looked at his dad in amazement and then dropped to the floor to hug her. That was the moment that I knew all of us did good!!! Remi/Maggie was home for Christmas and the Bostick family is continuing the work with ShelterOutreach Services to help her with the anxiety.
I, along with the Bostick family want to sincerely thank everyone who donated and helped Remi/Maggie get well enough to be back home with her family. We spent a little over half of the funds we raised for Remi/Maggie on her medical treatments. If the funds were not raised this story would not of had such a beautiful ending. Everyone who was involved needs to know they played a vital part in this story.

The remainder of the funds is now being spent on Sweet Sasha. Sweet Sasha is about a four month old black lab that showed up at the shelter with her face full of injuries and about a five inch wound on her side. We are guessing Sweet Sasha had a run in with a raccoon or other wild animal. Shelter Outreach Services operated on Sweet Sasha repairing her face and stitching up her side. She is now in foster care and once she is healed she will be up for adoption.
